Albert “Pepper” Hornung

February 12, 1946 – January 27, 2023 Sergeant Albert Carl Hornung, “Pepper,” was born in Allegan, MI. He lost his parents at the age of 7 and was lovingly raised by his grandmother Dinah Baker. He joined the United States Marine Corp at the age of 19 and proudly served his country. While in Vietnam, he was injured in 2 tours of duty. During his first tour he sustained a fragmentation wound, was treated in the field and was returned to duty. During his 2nd tour of duty he was struck in the head by a snipers bullet & returned home a War Hero, receiving 2 Purple Hearts for his injuries. He courageously served in the Marine Corp from November 17, 1965 to February 21, 1968 and was a highly decorated soldier. While in recovery from his war wounds in 1972 he met Orlando Martinez, a veterans advocate, who graciously took over his care and brought Pepper into his family. Although Pepper was physically limited in mobility, his attitude and good natured mentality was full of life. He enjoyed being around family, and loved music and good food. With the passing of Mr. Martinez in 2002, Pepper’s sister Denise was dedicated to his health and happiness, and he had the love of us all. Pepper passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 27, 2023. Pepper is survived by his family by heart – sisters Toni, Stephanie and Denise, Denise’s husband Dean, & nephews and nieces Raymond and Heather, Sylvia and Joey, Raymond, Marina, Jane, Rachel, Elizabeth and Marty.
