Bruce Keeney passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 from Alzheimer’s. He was a long time resident of Barstow. He was 82 years old.
Bruce was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 26, 1938 to George and Charlotte Keeney. He graduated from Victor Valley High school in 1957. Shortly after graduation he joined the Navy. After his Navy service, he began the first of several jobs in Barstow. First at the Santa Fe Railroad as a Fireman, then maintenance at the Golf Course in Lenwood, and finally his longtime job at Southwest Gas as a Meter Reader. After retiring from Southwest Gas he enjoyed activities such as working on old cars, repairing old radios and Juke boxes, coaching numerous girl/women softball teams as well as serving with the Barstow Police R.S.V. P. program. At one time he also adopted a portion of I-15 for cleanup. As his Alzheimer’s progressed, it was necessary for him to be relocated to Reno to be near his daughter. But his love for Barstow and the High Desert was always in his heart up to the very end.
Bruce is survived by his daughter Carrie Montoya of Albuquerque, NM, Daughter Lori Walker (Russ) of Reno, NV, Son Mark Keeney (Luz) of San Diego, Ca; his brother’s Scott Keeney of Fontana, CA, and Raymond Keeney (Angie) of Rancho Cucamonga. His honorary Barstow family of Fengqin “Selena” Wang and Jiazi “Kitty” Guo. He also has 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A Special Thank you to Union Bank (Angel), The Barstow Senior Center (Joyce), The Eagles Club, Jenny’s Grill, Carrie Fleming, Anna Sanchez and Selena Wang for being our eyes and ears when family could not be there before his move to Reno.
