Francisco Maldonado, age 70, of McKinney, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 after a hard battle with cancer. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1950 and moved to Barstow, CA during his youth.
Frank graduated from Kennedy High School and was a veteran of the US Army. He established life-long friends during his 40 years of employment with the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring as a train engineer in 2012.
Frank had a passion for soccer, dedicating over 30 years as a coach, referee, and mentor. He was the coach of the girls’ and boys’ soccer teams at Barstow High School and also coached an adult women’s team. Frank was a fixture in the Barstow community and affected numerous lives throughout his time there.
Frank (Frankie, Poncho) had a heart of gold. There was not anything he would not do for his family and friends. His infectious smile and positive attitude on life made everyone around him feel appreciated and loved. His commitment and passion for his family was evident by his constant support of his children’s many extracurricular activities. His courage and hope are reminders that life is precious. Frank’s life may have seemed too short to many people. Everyone he touched understood that the quality of life far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Frank will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Ruth Maldonado; his mother Corine Chavez; his father Alberto Jaramillo; his brothers Richard Martinez and Jeff Jaramillo; and his sister Lori Ann Chavez.
He is survived by his wife of four years Leonor Maldonado; his children, Monica Maldonado-Marks (James) of Tega Cay, SC, Frankie (Kendra) Maldonado of Tampa, FL, and Alyssa Maldonado of Greensboro, NC; his grandchildren, Marisa and Camden Marks and Ezekiel and Ruthie Maldonado; his sisters Dolores (LD) Strange of Albuquerque, NM, Judy (Eli) Lovato of Albuquerque, NM, Noel Gutierrez of Albuquerque, NM, and Sandra (Randy) Abeyta of Los Lunas, NM; his brothers, Peter (Loretta) Maldonado of Barstow, CA, Steve (Andrea) Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, Julian Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, Marcial (Yvette) Jaramillo of Los Lunas, NM, Manuel Jaramillo of Little Rock Arkansas, Robert (Frances) Jaramillo of Albuquerque, NM, and Ross Jaramillo of Albuquerque, NM.
