James Loeb

July 27, 1944 – July 29, 2021 The time has come for me to tell you a little of my life on earth. I was born in Toledo, Ohio to Mildred and Charles (Boots) Loeb. They taught my three brothers and me the importance of family, strong work ethic, solid character and the value of a dollar. I had a darn good childhood. I played baseball and football for my schools and CYO. I enjoyed ice skating, playing hockey on our local ponds, and swimming in quarries, as long as we were home for dinner we had a free rein. I was proud to serve in the Navy on the USS Truckee. At 17, I got to see a bit of the world, England, Italy, Greece and Spain; in 1962 our ship was commissioned by Cuba in preparation for the "Cuban Crisis" with the Soviets. Also, I was proud to play ball for The Navy Team out of New York. I married my childhood sweetheart, Donna (Robertson) whom I met in the fourth grade, we were 19 and would have been married 58 years in October. We had three sons, Michael who passed in 1964, Jeff and Marc. We made a life changing move to California in 1965, I worked for VIP Pools in Van Nuys, CA. Eventually I bought my own route as an independent contractor. I was always a dreamer with plenty of ambition and a no-fear attitude. In 1973, I got wind of a well established business, Pool & Artist Supply in San Bernardino that was for sale. I purchased the business and the property in 1982. In 2009 I purchased a second existing pool store, Riverside Patio ‘n Pool. I looked forward to each morning, heading off to work I would often say, "another day another dollar." I loved chatting with my customers and solving their pool issues and at times attempting to solve the problems of the world. Over the years I’ve had a great team who have helped in the success of our business. Donna and I were blessed with six grandchildren, Trisha, Morgan, Madison, Lauren, Mallory and Brent. I’m extremely proud of all of them and will continue watching over them. I’m also leaving behind my wonderful daughter-in-law, Patty, my sisters-in-law Mary Lou Otey, Fran Robertson, and Lori Fones, whom all helped Donna during my illness, and Mary Loeb from Toledo, brothers-in-law, John who has worked tirelessly for our business and Eugene Robertson as well as so many loved nieces and nephews. Through the years I was involved with St. Thomas More Parish, as an extraordinary minister, active on their building committee and a regular "bingo caller." I coached Little League, attended many golf and baseball games in support of my sons. I attended karate, tennis, cheer, baseball, soccer, tee-ball, and ice skating in support of the grandchildren. We met so many amazing friends while boating, off-road trips at Glamis and Pismo, camping, ocean fishing in Mexico, Oregon and California. Going to the "canal" year after year crabbing and trapping lobster. I was given the opportunity to travel with friends and business associates all over the world, thanks to the Wilson "Hasa" family. What great memories! I loved golf "19th" hole, playing cards, swimming in the ocean and baseball "Go Dodgers." I will be met in heaven by my son, Michael, my parents, my three brothers Bill, Bob, and John, my special nephew Gerry and brother-in-law John Holly and Donna’s parents, Gene and Fran. It has been an amazing journey and "A Wonderful Life." I found happiness and contentment in simple things: love of family, laughter of children, warmth of friends and beauty of nature.
