Jan (John) Mouwerik
Jan (John) Van Mouwerik July 3, 1929 – May 9, 2021 Jan (John) Van Mouwerik was born at home on Lugonia Avenue in Redlands on July 3, 1929, the third child of John and Elizabeth Van Mouwerik. John was proud to be a resident of Redlands his entire life and died peacefully with his wife at his side at home on May 9, 2021. As a child John attended Redlands Christian School and learned to work hard at the family business, Brookside Dairy. In his senior year of high school John joined the National Guard. After graduating from Redlands High School in 1947, he went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for Agriculture. His schooling was interrupted when his unit was activated into the 40th Division and sent to Japan and Korea for a year of active duty. Upon returning from the war in May of 1952, John went back to work for the dairy where he spent many early mornings delivering milk to homes and businesses in the Inland Empire and mountain communities. On June 17,1954, John married Marcia Ann Heyboer. Through their 66 years of commitment to each other they were blessed with five children, 7 grandchildren, and soon-to-be 8 great grandchildren. John loved spending time with his family. His dedication, concern, and respect for them demonstrated Christ’s love through action. John was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church where he shared a tremendous servant’s heart; his legacy of love and compassion is what most will remember about him. He was interested in knowing about people and sharing conversation. He was on the boards and supported Redlands Christian School and Redlands Family Services, and he spent 35 years driving monthly to Mexico with Mexican Christian Children’s Aid (MCCA). He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jim, and three brothers: Joe, Henry, and Herb. He leaves behind his wife Marcia, three siblings: Margaret Lamberts, Doris Wyngaarden, and brother Hans, his children: Jann (Pat) Beaver, Michael (Kay), Marianne (Mark) De Boer, and Jeffrey (Ann), and all of his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.
