John Hernandez Jr.
Age 82, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at home in San Bernardino. He was born on August 26, 1935 in San Bernardino to John Manuel Hernandez, and Carmen (Torres) Hernandez. John, called “Manuel” by all of his family and friends, attended school in San Bernardino, graduating from San Bernardino High School in 1953. Manuel was a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving from 1954 through 1958. During Manuel’s active duty, he was stationed at Amarillo AFB in Texas, and Spangdahlem AFB in Germany, working as a jet bomber mechanic, which he enjoyed immensely. Following active duty, Manuel served in the Air Force reserves from 1958 through 1962. Manuel then spent several years working as a Print Pressman for Acme Color Print, before deciding to go into business for himself by starting a landscaping business. Manuel enjoyed spending time with his family, and watching sports including, baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and horse racing. Manuel also enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons and evenings with longtime friends, while making new friends at VFW 8737 in San Bernardino. He also had a particular passion for fishing, and delighted family with his ability to barbecue the best steaks and cook the best pot of menudo.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Teresa Leon. Loving family who will continue to cherish Manuel’s memory include sister Magdalena Melendez, San Bernardino; son Anthony (Rosie) Hernandez, Calimesa; daughter Francine Hernandez, San Bernardino; daughter Darlene (Mike) Sepulveda, San Bernardino; son Marc (Kristina) Hernandez, San Bernardino; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Manuel touched are invited to a visitation at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, with interment immediately following at Riverside National Cemetery.
