September 26, 1929 – February 5, 2023 John Eugene Torchia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, was born in Redding, Pennsylvania on September 26, 1929 and passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 in his home. John had been a resident of Riverside, California since 1951. After graduating Shillington High School, John joined the United States Army. He served in the Army until 1953 when he was honorably discharged. After serving, John moved to Riverside and attended Riverside Community College then CSU-San Diego where he graduated with a Bachelors in Social Science. John continued his education, obtaining his Masters Degree from CSU-San Bernardino. He began his teaching career in 1958 at Arlington Jr. High School. In 1961 Norte Vista High School opened and John’s high school teaching career began. Along with teaching, John coached baseball from 1960 to 1967 at Norte Vista. Although he was no longer coaching baseball, John continued to teach at Norte Vista until he retired in 1993. John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed backpacking, fishing and golf. John is survived by daughter Gina (Scott) Drake, son John and grandsons Isaac Torchia, Joshua Drake and Jacob Drake, siblings Dan & Denise Torchia, Annette Allison, Michael & Sharon Torchia, sister-in-law Janice Sandretto, along with a large extended family. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeannie, parents John & Rose Torchia, siblings Theresa (Murray) Gilbert, Frank Torchia, Rosalie (John) Shine and brother-in-law Donald Sandretto.
