Lawrence Harvey
As a native of Los Angeles, California, Lawrence B. Harvey lived most of his school years in the El Monte area where he graduated from El Monte High School. From here, he served two years in the Navy during World War II. Upon his return from the war, Larry attended and graduated from Chaffey College. In 1954, Larry moved to the Inland Empire where he became a prominent resident of San Bernardino. He began his career with Santa Fe Federal Savings and Loan Association as a bookkeeper. Within a short time, Larry met his wife, Evelyn Van Nortwick who worked in the loan department with the Association. Larry and Evelyn were married in 1956, and by 1959, Larry was appointed Treasurer over Santa Federal Savings and Loan Association. By 1963, Larry had earned his Graduate Diploma from the American Savings and Loan Institute and went on to become the Senior Vice President of Santa Federal Savings and Loan Association. In 1983, with the merger of the Association, Larry moved on to establish Life Savings Bank where he was President and CEO until his retirement. Along with his rewarding career, Larry believed in community service as a way to augment and facilitate growth among people in the city. Over the years, he served as President of the San Bernardino Public Library Board of Trustees, San Bernardino Community Hospital Foundation, Joe Hertel Scholarship Foundation, San Bernardino Community Scholarship Association, Santa Claus, Inc., San Bernardino Junior Chamber of Commerce, Tri-County Savings and Loan Controllers, San Bernardino Rotary, Arrowhead Country Club, Inland Empire Cultural Foundation, Valley Volunteer Bureau, Emmanuel United Methodist Church Board of Trustees and Campaign Chairman for Arrowhead United Way. Further, Larry was a member of the San Bernardino University State College Library Executive Committee, Arrowhead Health Care System, Arrowhead United Way Board, San Bernardino Rotary (where he had 30 years perfect attendance), Chamber of Commerce, Native Sons of the Golden West and the Elks Club. Through his service, Larry earned many awards and honorary lifetime memberships within the service community. Larry is survived by his wife Evelyn Harvey, his three children, twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Children: Russell Harvey and wife Susan, Lawrene Solberg and husband Rick, Linda Harvey-Hobson and husband Mark. Grandchildren: Leigh Harvey-Eisen and husband Tejar, Lani Baroody and husband Michael, Lindsey Pham and husband Lam, Ryan Ideishi and wife Tina, Jessica Stocks, Chelsea Stocks, Nicole Stocks, Victoria Catherwood and husband John, Tim Stocks, Sydnie Stocks, Jenny Solberg and Carissa Andres and husband Dylan. Great-grandchildren: Lyllia Ideishi, Kayli Ideishi-Pham, Ryder Ideishi, Zane Eisen, Raiden Ideishi and Simon Baroody. Lawrence has gone on to join his parents and siblings to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven.
