On September 5, 2020, Max McCormick, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Oro Valley, AZ. He was born in Montebello, CA in 1932. He was the beloved husband of Jean McCormick for nearly 51 years; father of Andrea Parker of CA and Ryan McCormick of MD and grandfather to 5 grandchildren. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War, and graduated from UCLA (Bachelors) and University of Puget Sound (Masters). He joined the Chaffey Union District School District in 1972 and taught high school art, photography and ceramics until his retirement in 1995. Many of his students went on to win awards for their art works. While he lived in Upland, he was also active in community activities like baseball and soccer, and pursued hobbies including learning to pilot a small airplane and skiing, and always generously donated his time. He started a ski club and photo clubs while teaching at Upland High School. Max was also a licensed Certified Financial Planner and won many awards while an employee of Plan Member Services for his dedication to helping fellow educators financially plan for retirement. After retirement, Max and Jean moved to Arizona and toured the country in their motorhome, trekking from Maine to California and everywhere between. Max will be missed greatly by family and friends.
