Peter Rodney Shield
It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Rodney Shield announces his passing on December 28, 2022 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was 80 years old. Pete is survived by daughter Carrie, son Brad and daughter-in-law Colleen McCord, brothers Mike (Nancy) and Chris (Susie), and sister Marcia Raccah. His wife Linda passed away in 2020. Pete was born on August 15, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to parents John and Marguerite (Peggy). He attended Washington High School and later earned a business degree from the University of Southern California. He and Linda married in September 1965, just before he reported for duty in the US Air Force. After serving in Okinawa, he and Linda returned to the United States where he built a career in real estate sales and lending. Pete was known and well-loved for his affable nature, corny sense of humor, and an ability to connect with just about anyone. He loved sports, especially his beloved Dodgers and USC Trojans. He excelled at regaling his kids, nephews, and nieces with stories of his adventures with his brothers in 1950s Los Angeles building (and crashing) soap box race cars and hopping trains. He was a devoted father who shared his love of the outdoors by taking his family on camping trips. He was also a dedicated husband who cared for Linda through several illnesses in her later years. To commemorate his life the family would appreciate a donation in his name to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the National Domestic Workers Alliance, an organization dedicated to improving the working conditions of caregivers.
