Veryl Kelsey

March 31, 1940 – June 19, 2022 Veryl Victor Kelsey, a proud father, grandfather, and businessman, passed away on June 19, 2022, at the age of 82. Veryl was a devoted family man, who loved others, and lived a life full of integrity and honor. Veryl was born on March 31, 1940, to his father, Victor Kelsey, and mother, Leona Judisch, at their home in Readlyn, Iowa. His mother, Leona, passed away hours after Veryl’s birth due to complications. Veryl was raised in Tripoli, Iowa, by Victor’s loving second wife, Myrtle Kelsey. She raised him as her own, along with his surviving siblings: Geri Salisbury, Marlys Patterson, Ron Kelsey, and Tammy Miller. Veryl graduated from Tripoli High School in 1958 and joined the United States Navy. He frequently joked, “I wanted to go somewhere without corn, and the Navy seemed like the best opportunity”. He was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, and Long Beach, California, during his enlistment. Veryl was assigned as a quartermaster on the heavy cruiser, USS Rochester CA 124, and was then transferred to a destroyer lead, where he completed his enlistment. After his service in the Navy, Veryl spent ten years working for the National Cash Register Company as a cash register repairman and computer technician. Veryl then began working at Allstate Insurance Company as a sales agent, where he ultimately fell in love with the industry and decided to launch his insurance career. By 1974, Veryl founded his first insurance brokerage, Central City Insurance Agency, in San Bernardino, CA, establishing one of the most successful agencies in the county at that time. By 1979, Veryl sought additional opportunities in Big Bear Lake, CA where he purchased a second brokerage, Big Bear Insurance Agency, which still actively serves the community he loved. Veryl Kelsey was predeceased by his father, Victor Kelsey, mother, Leona Judisch, and his wife of 40 years, Donna Stockwell. Veryl is survived by: two daughters, Leann Williams (Robert Williams) and Kathleen Malone, as well as three granddaughters, Jennifer Griggs (Larry Griggs), Marisa Madani (Babak Madani), Elizabeth Mills (Andrew Mills), great-grandson Dylan Mills, and great-granddaughter Madelynn Mills.
