William Collins

Rancho Mirage – William James Collins passed away on September 3rd 2019 at the age of 96 at his home in Rancho Mirage, Ca. Bill was born in Roscoe PA. on October 1, 1922, where he grew up with 3 sisters and one adopted brother. After graduating from High School, he enrolled in Penn State University. His college years were interrupted in 1943 when the Army called on him to serve. Bill was sent to Europe where he served under General George Patton an earned 2 Purple Hearts.

Bill returned from the war and completed his college education receiving a B.S. Degree in Metallurgy. He married Elaine Parkins in 1948 and began his career in Corning New York,with the Corning Glass Company. Bill and Elaine also began their family and had three sons – William R. Collins of Rancho Mirage, Laurence J Collins of Santa Anna Ca. and Robert M. Collins of Dove Canyon, Ca.

Bill later joined Rolled Alloys Corporation where he became Vice President of Sales,before retiring permanently to the Sunrise Country Club in Rancho Mirage California, where he was able to pursue his lifetime passion for golf. He is survived by his 3 sons, 5 grandchildren,and 10 great grandchildren.
